Cracked Pools
Cracked pools as a result of unstable or deteriorating backfill are quite common. This type of defect is the resultant of surrounding ground movement and as such, to prevent further risk of cracking, the pool shell should be underpinned before further repairs are carried out.
The cost of underpinning can be quite overwhelming.
There are multiple approaches to repair a crack which has formed within a pool shell, through my experience I have discovered that the most effective method is to cut out the crack and to install a flexible joint. This flexible application will move with the expected nominal expansion and contraction of the pool shell. In most instances, identified cracks have settled to the surrounding environment and the flexible repair is an effective solution at a sensible expense when compared with underpinning.
Swimming Pool Pipe Repairs
Fractured underground PVC pipes in pools are frequent and are generally caused through subsidence of ground conditions surrounding the pool shell.
The Leak Detective’s repairs team is fully equipped with all the vital tools to carry out and complete any repair efficiently and discretely. All repairs are detailed and photographed at completion for customer satisfaction.
For any repairs which have not been first located and quoted by The Leak Detective will be charged a minimum call out fee equal to the first hour (including pressure test set-up) and an hourly rate following will apply. Our fully trained pool plumbers will have the job completed efficiently and effectively.
Repairs which require the aid of specialised equipment such as a concrete saw or jackhammer and advanced repairs such as skimmer box replacement or cracked pool repair will be quoted appropriately dependant of site conditions and constraints.
Replacement of Damaged Skimmer Box
If you have noticed air bubbles within your pump when vacuuming the pool or while an automatic cleaner is attached, generally this suggests there is an air leak somewhere within the pools suction line.
A cracked or poor glue joint in the suction pipe could be the culprit or the skimmer box has deteriorated and may need a replacement.
The first step would be to undertake a pressure test of the suction pipe and determine the location of the problem. If it is proven to be the skimmer box, don’t fear the worst as the skimmer box may not need a full replacement. With a full understanding of the problem, a fibreglass repair may be possible.
In rare cases where the skimmer box has been proven to have deteriorated, the copping surrounding the top of the skimmer box will need to be removed. The skimmer box will then need to be carefully cut and removed from the pool shell without any undue damage to the bond beam or steel reinforcement which surrounds the skimmer box.
Following removal, a new skimmer will be fitted and the copping rectified. A replacement skimmer box project is no easy task and should not be attempted by a novice.
